Tom Hilton, DMD, MS

Dr. Tom Hilton received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1978 and entered the US Air Force that same year. In 1984, he completed a 2-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD-2) residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. In 1999, he retired from the Air Force after 21 years of active duty, most recently having served as the assistant chairman for resident education for the Air Force AEGD-2 residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, and chief of the USAF Dental Investigation Service (the Air Force dental research branch).

Dr. Hilton joined the faculty of Oregon Health and Science University in 1999, and received his MS in biomaterials and biomechanics from OHSU in 2003. He currently holds the position of alumni centennial professor in operative dentistry. He is the past-president of the Dental Materials Group for the American Association for Dental Research and serves as a consultant for the American Dental Association's Council on Scientific Affairs. His areas of research interest include practice-based dental research, and he is currently the director of the Practice-based Research in Oral Health (PROH) network in Oregon and southern Washington. Dr. Hilton is also involved in the laboratory and clinical evaluation of factors affecting the performance of dental composites and adhesives. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, he maintains a private dental practice in Beaverton, Oregon.
