Kuraray America, Inc. has announced that all 14 shades of KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED are now available, including the addition of A2 and A3. According to the company, the expanded shade selection provides clinicians with greater flexibility for posterior crown cases while maintaining the material properties of the KATANA™ Zirconia portfolio.
KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED is designed for chairside zirconia restorations and features a reported flexural strength of 1,023 MPa and translucency consistent with conventional KATANA™ Zirconia ONE. When used with Dentsply Sirona's CEREC® SpeedFire, the material supports a 9-minute sintering workflow for posterior crown restorations.

According to the company, the 9-minute sintering time is enabled by Kuraray Noritake Dental's zirconia powder technology, which allows the material to reach a highly activated state with less energy and accelerates the sintering process. The multilayer KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED block consists of four gradated zirconia layers—enamel, transition layer 1, transition layer 2, and body/dentin—to produce tooth-colored restorations. The company also noted that the CEREC® Move Tool helps position restorations within the layered structure for esthetic results.
The complete shade selection includes NW from the NORITAKE SHADE GUIDE and 13 shades from the VITA classical A1-D4® system: A1, A2, A3, A3.5, A4, B1, B2, B3, C1, C2, C3, D2, and D3.
The company recommends that users update their CEREC® or inLab software to ensure compatibility with the expanded shade range. Compatible versions include CEREC® software 5.2.14 or newer, CEREC® software 5.3.5 or newer, and inLab CAM 22.8. According to the company, individual KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED blocks may have slight size differences that are adjusted automatically by the software.
